𝟑) What is HB 1258? The bill’s analysis states: “Providing funding for municipalities participating in the regional 911 emergency communications system.”
𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫: This is so narrowly tailored that it will 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 affect Spokane County, 𝐍𝐎 other county in Washington. It will divert 911 emergency communications TAX money from all other cities and Spokane County, as a whole, to fund the City of Spokane’s emergency communications services.

🚨Don’t Let Olympia Decide How Your Spokane County Tax Dollars Are Spent!🚨
House Bill (HB) 1258 has been drafted by District 3 Representatives Natasha Hill and Timm Ormsby to funnel a significant share of Spokane County’s tax dollars towards the City of Spokane.
Your Spokane County Fire District 2 believes HB 1258 is a bad deal for Spokane County. This bill would force our community to subsidize the City of Spokane’s financial issues, shifting our tax dollars to solve their problems—at the expense of 20 other fire and law enforcement agencies throughout Spokane County.
Spokane County deserves fair, local decisions—not mandates from Olympia. Regional cooperation through SREC works, saving money and improving safety for everyone. Don’t let one city’s budget priorities undermine our community.
📢SCFD 2 is opposed to HB 1258, and we stand along with 20 out of 22 law enforcement and fire agencies in the county on this issue. The bill will be considered and voted on in the WA State House of Representative Finance Committee on Thursday 1/30/2025 at 1:30pm.

Unfortunately, this week District 2 said goodbye to our most dedicated volunteer. All of our volunteers are proud to be able to serve our community. However, this one would shiver with excitement every time he was privileged enough to ride with District 2. He was excited for training nights meeting everyone at the door of the station as they came into training, or even their door as they got out of their vehicles into the parking lot. he absolutely loved attending our community events like Flag Day, trunk or treat, and Fire Safety Week at our local preschool. Every aspect of being one of our volunteers made his tail wag profusely.
Rest easy Ranger, we’ve got it from here, buddy.

SCFD2 would like to locally wish our fire pup Ranger and our neighboring fire pup Pierce at Spokane County Fire District 8 a happy national fire pup day. Of course we can’t forget to wish the same for Sparky The Fire Dog, and all of the other Fire pups that help in all the ways they do!

Fire District 2 is transitioning our trainings for the season from wildland based to structural based trainings. To start this off last night our members played dodgeball. In District 2 history we have never had to be proficient in dodgeball on scene. Although, by going through this drill our members are able to perform a strenuous task that is physically exerting while in full gear and on air. This allows our members to get comfortable in their gear in working conditions, and be able to better understand the physical restrictions and abilities of their equipment.

SCFD 2 sent an Engine crew today to the Cimmaron Fire in Spokane Valley. We also sent an Attack Engine, Tender, and Officer to the County Line Fire on Saturday.
